It was so great having students back in the building, and everyone handled the transition and added mitigation measures very well.  The sense of normalcy was so refreshing!  Thank you for working with your children and preparing them for our new and different school year!  We also appreciate your partnership and patience as we navigate this year.  It’s important to remember, this is going to be a marathon and not a sprint.

IN THE NEWS:

Sickness/Quarantine Protocol

Please adhere to this FLOWCHART for protocols for sickness/symptoms of COVID-19.  As I mentioned in a previous email:  Please be prepared for children to be sent home if they are ill or display any symptoms of COVID-19.  We ask that you display patience with our school nurse during these instances.  In order for schools to stay open, it is imperative that we follow these protocols.

 

If your child typically suffers from season allergies and is seen by an allergist/doctor, please provide a doctor’s note to our nurse, Mrs. Ouellette.  Please contact her with any questions.

 

Morning Announcements for Distance Learning & Remote Students

I would like for Distance Learning and Remote students to have access to in-school Morning Announcements.  I feel like it better connects them to the school as well as provides some routine to their "home" days.  I will be live streaming it using a Google Meet invitation that teachers will embed into their Google Classroom doc. It will take place each day at approximately 8:15 AM.  It is not required and there’s nothing for parents to do.  This is just an FYI.

Parent Pick-Up

Please be sure to have a CLEARLY labeled sign with both the first name AND last name of the child(ren) you will be picking up at dismissal.  Doing so saves a lot of time and helps our dismissal process run much smoother.

 

Infosnap

If you have not already done so, please take a few minutes to complete the Infosnap process.  If you do not have the email with the link/snapcode that was sent to you this summer, please contact the school office. 

 

Automated Attendance Call

Again this year, families in the Bedford School District will receive a phone call confirming their child's absence via our "School Messenger" system.  Once we have taken attendance, a message will be generated confirming your child's absence.  This year, it will also include Distance Learning and Remote students.  The elementary calls will go out at approximately 9:30 AM, McKelvie and Lurgio will go out at 10:30 AM and the BHS at 11:00 AM.  If this call comes to you in error, please contact the Main Office, so that we can correct the attendance report.

 

NH Tackles Hunger Virtual Food Drive

Over the next month, residents of NH, businesses, schools and more will make monetary donations via LINK, and any funds that are collected for your assigned school will be credited to your Food Bank (Bedford Food Pantry) account at the conclusion of the drive. We will notify you then as to how much money was donated to your program via the high school.

 

Strings Program

Our Strings Program will be held remotely this year (or until further notice).  If you are interested in having your child participate, please contact Aubrie Dionne at aubrie@mcmusicschool.org or by calling (603)644-4548 at the Manchester Community Music School.

 

Girl Scouts

This group is typically at our Meet and Greet, so in lieu of that, we are allowing this information to be sent home via Principal’s Notes.

REMINDERS:

Attendance

Attendance will be recorded daily.  During Remote, In-school and Distance Learning days parents will need to call the Attendance Line if their child is unable to attend or participate.

 

Mask Requirement

Masks are required when social distancing is not possible (i.e. bus, hallways, bathrooms) and are recommended at all times.  Please send in a cloth mask (preferable) with your child each day.  Gaiters and bandanas are discouraged.

Pre-Ordering Student Lunches

Families are required to pre-order meals using the online system. Online ordering will be through www.sendmoneytoschool.com.  Please click HERE for other important lunch information.

            Drop Off (7:45 AM - 8:00 AM):

Starting at 7:45 AM, parents/guardians will drop off their children at the back circle (as you’ve typically done).  Children will need to exit their vehicles on the passenger side.  Staff members will be present to help direct traffic and guide children into the building. 

 

Pick-Up (2:20 PM) 

By 2:20 PM, students will be in the gym and ready to be dismissed to their parents/guardians' vehicles outside of the two gym doors. Parents/guardians will proceed to the back circle and loop around to the side of the gym.  Staff members will be present to help direct traffic and dismiss children.  Children will need to enter their vehicles on the passenger side. 

Each vehicle should have a clearly labelled and visible sign with the first and last name(s) of the child(ren) being picked up, and parents/guardians must be prepared to show identification until duty people are familiar with you.

The RBS staff is looking forward to our 1^st days of in-person instruction tomorrow (L-Z) and Friday (A-K).  Please know that we will take very good care of your children!  We understand that students and parents have some stress on these first days of school, and we will take extra measures to ensure that everyone kicks off the school year on a positive note!

Dear Riddle Brook School Families:

 

We hope you are enjoying the remainder of your summer.  We’re sure that you are beginning to anticipate the start of school.  We’ve been working hard to prepare Riddle Brook School for our opening days.  As you may know, the school board approved an added professional development day for staff on Wednesday, August 26th, which was originally scheduled to be our first day for students.  Therefore, the first day of school schedule looks like this:

However, there are some important points that we wanted to highlight for you.

 

Meet and Greet

Unfortunately, we will not be able to have our typical Meet and Greet event the day prior to the start of school.  However, each classroom teacher will be putting together a Meet and Greet video to send home to families on Wednesday, August 26th.  This will provide students and families with a visual of the classroom and a welcome message from the teacher.

·      Have you traveled in the prior 14 days outside of New England (outside of NH, VT, ME, MA, CT, RI)?

 

Please be prepared for children to be sent home if they are ill or display any symptoms of COVID-19.  We ask that you display patience with our school nurse during these instances.

 

A Note from Our Nurse, Michele Ouellette:

Please drop off your child's medications along with the appropriate paperwork to the school nurse on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 or Wednesday, August 26, 2020 between 8AM -12PM at the health office window in front of the school. The school nurse will be available to receive medications at this  time. If you are unable to drop off at this time, please call the school nurse, Michele Ouellette, at 603-471-1082 x25201 to make other arrangements to drop off prior to the first day of school.

RBS Outdoor Classrooms

August 6, 2020

Dear RBS Families,

Happy August!  At RBS, we are working busily to put things in place for our opening.  It has been highly suggested that schools have areas for outside classrooms to be used when/if possible.  Mr. Munsey and I have designated several areas around the perimeter of our school--one/grade level (1 class at a time)--to be used as outdoor classrooms.

I know this is a big ask, but if any family has a picnic table that they would be willing to donate or lend, it would be GREATLY appreciated.  Ideally, 2 per grade level would be great (umbrellas would be a bonus for the hot weather!).  That said, we will be VERY GRATEFUL for whatever we receive!

RBS Parent/Guardian Reopening Selection Plan

Dear Bedford Families,

 

The Bedford School District has developed a Hybrid Plan (see district web site) that supports the health and safety of our students, while providing in-person learning. We strongly urge students and parents to opt for the hybrid model; however, we also understand each family has their own set of circumstances, which may preclude them from participating in this model. 

 

To help you better understand the options available, please read the following explanations:

Remote Instruction

 

If you are choosing the remote only option, please fill out the form below no later than Friday, July 31. You do not need to fill out the form if your child is participating in the district’s Hybrid model as your child will automatically be placed into the Hybrid model. The form below should be filled out for EACH STUDENT in a household who is electing to learn through the Remote instruction model.  In order for our schools to develop plans for staffing and schedules, we ask that you make a commitment to your choice for the first semester (August 27, 2020-January 15, 2021). Please fill out THIS FORM if you are selecting remote instruction for your child.

 

We have compiled a list of Frequently Asked Questions in order to help families better understand some of the specifics outlined in the Hybrid and Remote plans.

 

Each level has developed a calendar that is helpful for students who are participating in the Hybrid model. These calendars will give you a schedule of when your child will be in the school building and when they will participate in distance learning.

Transportation

In an effort to adhere to physical distancing guidelines, we encourage families to utilize their own transportation to and from school, if possible. However, bus transportation will be available. Students will be required to wear masks when riding and sit with siblings to maximize our seating capacity. Students will sit one to a seat unless the numbers do not allow, and then we will seat two to a seat. After each run, buses will be cleaned before a new group of students board. Families will receive further information prior to the start of school.

RBS Principal’s Notes

June 5, 2020

Thank you to all of our families for working with us in such a productive and collaborative manner!  Obviously, Remote Learning was nothing we could have expected or prepared for, but the partnership between school and home made it work as best as possible.  The notes and actions of gratitude were GREATLY appreciated by staff!  This was a trying time for students and families, but it was also very sad for our staff who want nothing more than to be with their students!  Your recognition of their hard work, flexibility and attention to the varying needs of their students and families was so appreciated!  We are incredibly lucky to work and live in the community that we do, and there is no place that I’d rather be than Bedford and RBS!  Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

I want to wish everyone a happy, healthy and relaxing summer!  Best wishes to our 4^th grade students who are moving up to McKelvie School, as well as those students who are moving over the summer.  You will be missed at RBS!

IN THE NEWS:

Chromebook Collection Process

We are planning for the collection of Chromebooks and the distribution of student materials.  Please read THESE INSTRUCTIONS/SCHEDULE carefully.

2020/21 Placement

Placement will take place over the summer this year.  We are aiming for the end of July.  At that time, your child’s new teacher will reach out via email with a welcome letter and supply information.  Please make sure that your email information is up to date in Power School.

2020/21 School Year

As you know, Superintendent Fournier has established 3 School Re-Opening Task Forces.  There will be a lot of work done over the summer to plan and prepare for school to re-open (in school, hybrid or remote), and as I receive information, I will certainly be in touch with parents.

Robyn McGilvary Award

Each year we present a 4^th grade student with the Robyn McGilvary Award.  This is given to a student who has displayed Robyn’s character, warm-heartedness and humor.  The recipient receives $100 (This money was donated by family and friends in lieu of flowers when Robyn passed away in April 2011.), and his/her name on a plaque, which is hung outside of the office at Riddle Brook School.  This year’s winner is Ryan O’Rourke.  Congratulations to Ryan and his family!

PTG News and Information

We wish the Class of 2020 much success as they head off to their next endeavors.  Congratulations to all Students of Bedford for embracing change, taking on new challenges and showing resilience in these unique times. REMINDERS:

Report Cards

As a reminder, student report cards are available online only in the PowerSchool Parent Access Portal.   To access your child's report card online, log into the PowerSchool Parent Portal and you will see a Report Cards icon in the left hand pane.  When you click on this icon your child's report card will appear on the screen.  You can scroll to see the entire report card and choose to print it, if you'd like.  If you’d like a printed report card, please print it prior to July 1^st, as it will not be available after we do roll over (sometime in July).  Anytime you click on the Report Cards icon, the most recent report card will generate.  Quarter 4 report cards will be available to view on Tuesday, June 9^th at 12:45 PM.

Quarter 4 Report Cards

As a reminder… Governor Sununu recommended schools report a Pass/Fail reporting system. Bedford does not use letter grades at the elementary schools, but we will make the adjustments described below.

Based on participation in the subjects of reading and mathematics, please expect your child's fourth-quarter progress to be either "Meeting District Expectations" or "Meeting Some District Expectations.”  For those rare instances when students did not participate in remote learning, they may receive “Not Meeting District Expectations.”  This information will be provided in the comment section of the report card.  Since the entire fourth quarter instruction has been under the conditions of Remote Learning, it is more difficult to provide a four-point reporting system as we had in the first three quarters of the year. Your child will also have a comment section from the teacher providing more detail. 

Integrated Arts will also provide progress on the report card (grades 3 & 4) with "Good" and "Satisfactory" in the area of participation. For those rare instances when students did not participate in remote learning, they may receive “Needs Improvement.”  

Yearbook Update

Our yearbook coordinator, Jen Spector, received word that Jostens printing plants are backed up due to some of their plants being shut down from Covid-19.  At this point, our yearbooks are not scheduled to ship until June 24^th.  We will be in touch about how/when to pick them up.

Summer Skills Math Books

Summer is almost here!  If you would like to order a Summer Skills Math Sharpener workbook for your child, please click HERE, then click on the “Parent Info.” tab.  You will be able to order the book online and it will be shipped right to your house.

The purpose of these workbooks is to review the math skills taught during the school year.  It is suggested that you order a workbook that is at the same grade level that your child is in now.  

Moving

If you have plans to move after school gets out, please contact our secretary, Patty McMahon (mcmahonp@sau25.net), as soon as possible to let her know.  This information impacts placement for us.  In addition, she will let you know what you need to do in terms of paperwork.  Thank you!

Bedford Presbyterian Church COVID-19 Resources

George Reese from the Bedford Presbyterian Church and Bedford Food Pantry reached out to RBS offering resources to our community.  I wanted to pass them onto parents.  They are:

• A dedicated COVID-19 Fund to provide assistance to community programs and individuals
• Helping Hands Outreach Ministry, that can provide necessary urgent home repairs to people that are unable to afford or perform them themselves.
• Bedford Presbyterian Church also houses the Bedford Community Food Pantry, which is open every Saturday from 9am-2pm. (603) 867-1445.
