February 22, 2019

RBS Principal’s Notes
February 22, 2019

I want to wish everyone a relaxing and fun-filled February vacation!

IN THE NEWS:
RBS Math & Literacy Night
Please mark your calendar for our annual Math & Literacy Night, which is scheduled for Thursday, March 7th with a snow date of Thursday, March 14th.  The event runs from 5:30-6:30 pm.  Math will be in the gym and literacy will be in the library.  Please be sure to bring your favorite book for the literacy portion of the evening.  All families are welcome!

KidVote 2019 (Sponsored by Bedford PTG)
Bedford School District students will have an opportunity to cast a vote during our School/Town Voting Day on Tuesday, March 12th.  At RBS, students will vote on a day for April Spirit Week.  The choices are:
1.  Holiday Day (Dress for your favorite holiday – no matter what time of the year it is!)
2.  Favorite Color Day (Wear your favorite color(s).)
3.  New Hampshire Day (Dress to represent your favorite NH place, activity, person, etc.)

Crayola Color Cycle (BHS Project)
BHS Seniors (and former RBS students), Katie Lewis and Isabella Poschmann will be running a Crayola Color Cycle drive at RBS from March 4th to March 15th for their CAS project, a requirement to graduate in the IB diploma program at BHS. This drive is to collect used/dried up markers that will then be sent to Crayola to be repurposed. The idea behind the drive is to help protect the environment by reusing and properly disposing of old markers. Please send in any used markers during the dates above. There will be a collection bin for the markers in the main floor hallway (outside of the library). Thank you in advance for all your donations!

March Food Drive
RBS is working with the Bedford Food Pantry to help collect food items that are most needed by families.  Every other month we collect 1 food item.  For the month of March, that item is CANNED FRUIT.  If you are able, please bring in canned fruit until Friday, March 29th.  We will have a box for donations in the office hallway outside of the library.  Thank you so much for supporting this very worthy cause, which supports Bedford families.

Evening Q&A with Dr. Dawn Huebner
Join us for a 90-minute Q&A on Wednesday, March 13th at 6:30pm at McKelvie Intermediate School with Dr. Dawn Huebner, nationally recognized Psychologist, Parent Coach and author of award-winning mental health books for kids. Dr. Huebner is best known for her What to Do Guides - including What to Do When You Worry Too Much and Outsmarting Worry - which have sold over 1 million copies. Rather than giving a one-size-fits-all talk, Dr. Huebner will be answering audience questions about how to recognize anxiety in kids, how to respond to it, and how to build skills to better manage it. Questions can be submitted in advance, written on a note card that evening (to maintain anonymity) or asked live. This is not a group therapy session but instead an informative Q&A that will leave you with a clearer understanding of anxiety, what parents do that inadvertently feeds it, and how to help your child get on the path to defeating it.

To submit a question for Dr. Huebner in advance, email Priscilla McGinty, School Counselor at McKelvie Intermediate School at mcgintyp@sau25.net, or your child's School Counselor.
