Cold Weather Clothes

The cool fall mornings are upon us!  Please remind your children that they need to keep the chilly temperatures in mind when dressing for school in the morning.  Layers are always a good idea this time of year.

Bus Delays

As many of you have noticed, our bus company is experiencing a shortage of drivers and subs this year. As a result, some of our runs have been running 15 or so minutes behind on the days there is a shortage.  Once I’m informed of the delay in the morning, I have been sending a message (text and email) to families informing them of the delay.  I will continue to do that moving forward.  Students on those buses will not be marked tardy if they arrive after 8:00 AM.  I know it can be frustrating and put a wrench in your morning plans, but the bus company is doing their best to accommodate all of their routes.  Thank you for your patience!

Counselor’s Corner

Mrs. Blaine began her class lessons this month. She is focusing on feelings and emotions in each grade level.  Below, please find the books she is reading and associated activities:

Kindergarten and Grade 1The Color Monster by Anna Llenas.  She will be playing “Name that Emotion!” with the students. At the end of the lesson everybody will get a poster of emotion emojis to take home.

Grade 2A Little Scribble Spot by Diane Adler.  She will be teaching about the Zones of Regulation. Each student will create their own scribble spot and rainbow spot as they learn to sort and name their emotions. At the end of the lesson each 2nd grade student will get their own Spot of Emotions Poster to take home.

Grades 3 & 4The Way I Feel by Janan Cain. The third graders will review the Zones of Regulation. Mrs. Blaine will show the class cards with pictures of children on them. The class will work together to sort the cards into the correct zone. They will also have an opportunity to complete a “How Am I Feeling Zone Worksheet.” Every third grader will take home a Zones of Regulation poster.  The fourth graders will  watch a video called “Why Do We Lose Control of Our Emotions?”  They will learn about the parts of their brain that control  emotions. At the end of the lesson each student will take home a Brain Pictograph that highlights brain function.
