RBS Principal’s Notes
January 10, 2020

IN THE NEWS:
Spirit Days
I wanted to give parents a heads up about our upcoming Spirit Days.  In past years, we had Spirit Week the week before both February and April Vacations.  Last year, our Principal’s Advisory Group decided to do it a little differently by having a Spirit Day 1 day a week for 5 weeks.  This schedule was a hit last year, so we’re continuing with it this year.

Here is our upcoming January/February Schedule:
Friday, Jan. 24 – Favorite Holiday
Friday, Jan. 31 – Favorite Character (can be book, tv, movie, comic, etc.)
Friday, Feb. 7 – Retro Day (Dress from your favorite decade.)
Friday, Feb. 14 – Valentine’s Day
Friday, Feb. 21 – RBS Spirit Day

Kindergarten and 1st Grade Registration (2020 – 2021)
Starting Monday, February 3rd, you may download and print out registration packets (HERE) or stop by our school to pick one up.  *Please do not download the form until closer to February 3rd as there is information that needs to be updated.  The packets need to be returned to the school by Thursday, March 5th.  A $525 deposit is required with the K+ registration (checks made out to Bedford School District).
  • A child must attain his/her 5th birthday on or before September 30, 2020 to be eligible for kindergarten.
  • A child must attain his/her 6th birthday on or before September 30, 2020 to be eligible for first grade.
Kindergarten students who are currently enrolled at RBS (or anywhere in the district) do not need to register for 1st grade.

Bakers (or Buyers) Needed for our Lady’s Choice Dance
Our annual Girl’s Choice Dance is scheduled for Friday, February 7th, and we’re looking for parents who are willing to donate baked goods for the event.  Students were sent home with THIS INFORMATION this week, but I wanted to include it here as well.  Ticket information will be going home on Friday, January 24th.

RBS Violin Lessons (formerly known as Strings Club)
If your child is interested in participating in Violin Lessons at RBS this winter/spring (January 27-May 11), please take a look at THIS FLYER for more information.  The registration deadline is January 21st.

REMINDERS:
Morning Drop Off
As a reminder, children should not be walking alone from Visitor Parking into the building.  As you can imagine, traffic in our parking lot is very busy in the morning, and it is a safety hazard for students to be walking alone.  Please park and walk your child into the building.  You will also need to sign your child in at the office.  Thank you!

Snow Day Lunch Info./Announcements
I want to let parents know how the district deals with hot lunches following a snow day. There is no rule of thumb when determining the lunch menu on the day following a snow day as the menu for that day is dependent upon what was on the menu the day of the snow day, what prep the kitchen had to do, and what fresh produce the kitchen had ordered.  Therefore, our district’s Food Service Director (Emily Murphy) provides an announcement on the SAU’s website (www.sau25.net) in the District News box, which will detail, by school, what the hot lunch offering will be the day following the snow day.  This information will be available the day of the snow day.

Food Pantry
RBS is working with the Bedford Food Pantry to help collect food items that are most needed by families.  Every other month we will be collecting 1 food item.  For the month of January, that item is SINGLE SERVE JUICE.  If you are able, please bring in single serve juice until Friday, January 24th.  We will have a box for donations in the office hallway outside of the library.  Thank you so much for supporting this very worthy cause, which supports Bedford families.
