RBS Principal’s Notes
November 17, 2017
IN THE NEWS:
Congratulations,
Andie!
One
of our fourth graders, Andie Nugent, recently represented the state of New
Hampshire by winning first-place for her invention for grades 3 and 4 at the
National Invention Convention and Entrepreneurship Expo in Washington,
DC. Since winning this award, her family was contacted by a company
named LittleBits who, working with Disney, needed an innovative female
inventor to help them with a new STEM-based droid kit that lets kids build
their own robot R2D2. Andie was chosen to share her story as a young
female inventor. A production crew from
New York City visited Riddle Brook and Andie's home earlier this fall to film
her story. We are SO proud of
Andie! To see her video and read her
article, please click HERE.
RBS Directory – Action
Item
Directory forms went
home with students this week. If you have more than 1 child in our
school, the form went home to the youngest sibling. If you’d like your child’s information
included in the RBS Directory, please send the form back to school by Tuesday,
November 21st. We only need one form per family.
Toys for Tots at RBS
RHYTHMICS
kicked off our TOYS FOR TOTS collection during their rehearsal on
Wednesday. TOYS FOR TOTS is a well known
charity run by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. We hope to collect more
than 500 toys before our Winter Concert, which is scheduled for December
13th. Until that day, boys, girls and Riddle Brook community members
are asked to deposit new, unwrapped toys in the big boxes located in the halls
and in the music room at school. All the
toys will be used as decorations on the edge of the stage for the concert! Through our generosity, the holidays will be
filled with happiness for boys and girls who need our help!
What is Vaping?
NOVEMBER 27 FROM 7 - 8
PM AT THE BEDFORD PUBLIC LIBRARY
Bedford Police Chief John
Bryfonski, Officer “Spike” Donahue and Officer Danielle Nightingale, School
Resource Officers at Bedford High School/Ross A. Lurgio Middle School and
McKelvie Intermediate School, respectively, will give you the facts about
vaping. Can you smell it? Can
people vape marijuana? Can people vape
other substances? What does a vape look like? Where do people get
vapes? Is it legal for kids to vape? In addition, Dr. Joseph Hou, Pulmonologist at
Catholic Medical Center, will also provide clinical information on
vaping. Is it addictive? Is it harmful? How does it affect
young people? How does it compare to smoking? The 40 minute presentation will be followed by
a 20 minute question and answer session. Get your questions about vaping
answered!
