We survived and thrived
during our 1st full week back to school! I hope everyone has a wonderful long Labor
Day weekend!
IN THE NEWS:
Drop-Off Reminder
I have a few of reminders
for parents when dropping your child off in the morning (both back and front of
building):
1.
Please do not
get out of your car to let your child out.
Not only is this a safety concern, it also backs up traffic. If your child needs assistance, please park in
Visitor Parking and escort him/her to the playground.
2.
For safety
reasons, your child should get out of the car on the sidewalk/passenger side.
3.
(For drop-off
in the back of the building) The first
car in line should pull up to the cone.
We need to make room for as many cars as possible in order to avoid
back-up from occurring.
I appreciate your
cooperation with this.
Parent Pick-Up (Parking)
I understand that our
parking situation at the end of the day is limited. However, please do not park along the curb in
the back loop. This blocks our special
education buses as well as impedes wheel chair access at the back ramp. Thank you.

Nutrition and Executive Functioning Messages
Each week we read a
nutrition/wellness and an executive functioning message to the students over
morning announcements. I will be
including those messages in my notes each week as well.
Nutrition Message
Find ways to cut back on
sugar, salt and fat. Choose whole
grains, low-fat yogurt, fruits and veggies.

Get in the ZONE, get in the
GREEN ZONE! Being in charge of your behavior and feelings, is the most
important thing a great boss does! This month we will talk about what
zones our behaviors and feelings fall into and what tools to use to get in the
GREEN Zone, so we are calm, happy, focused and ready for learning.

- BHS Football Game Admission (A Message from Superintendent McGee)
I
am looking forward to the first BHS home football game of the year. It is
this Friday, September 2 at 7:00 against Merrimack High School. For the first time, there will be an
admission charge to the game. Adults will be charged $5. Students high school age and younger will be
admitted free of charge. The School Board has given its support to the
Bedford Friends of Recreation and the Bedford Bulldog Athletic Booster Club to
collect these admissions. The fees will to help pay for a plan to
expand our bleachers and perhaps build team locker rooms near the
field. Please come early and have exact dollar amount if possible.

PTG Information

Back
to school greetings from the PTG! We are
looking forward to another great school year full of fantastic programs and
events for our students, staff and families. We are happy to announce
that we are now accepting donations via PAYPAL. For more information on our programming or to
make a donation online visit our website at www.bedfordptg.org. With your support we are able to put
$70,000/year in programs and events into our schools!! Enjoy the long Labor Day weekend ahead.
Volunteers
are an integral part in helping our school provide opportunities for students.
You should have received a volunteer packet with a list of volunteer
opportunities. Please consider lending a hand. We would appreciate
that the volunteer page be turned into your child’s teacher or the front office
by Friday, September 9th. If you have any questions

- Hannaford Helps
Initiative
Starting September 1st, at the
Hannaford stores located at 4 Jenkins Road, Bedford NH and 7 Kilton Road,
Bedford NH, introduced the Hannaford
Helps Reusable Bag program, which will be
focused on supporting the Bedford Parent Teacher Group!

The blue bags with the good karma message can be found on the reusable bag rack and at various registers.

REMINDERS:
Automated Attendance Call
Again this year families
in the Bedford School District will receive a phone call confirming their
child's absence via our "School Messenger" system. Once we have taken attendance, a message will
be generated confirming your child's absence. The elementary calls will go out at
approximately 9:30 AM, McKelvie and Lurgio will go out at 10:30
AM and the BHS at 11:00 AM. If
this call comes to you in error, please contact the Main Office so that we can
correct the attendance report.
Principal/Parent Communication
As my primary form of
communication, I will be sending you an email update every week—typically on
Friday afternoon/evening. The email will include action items (highlighted in yellow),
reminders, and other important information.
I will also archive all of my notes on the RBS web page (Principal’s
News). Parents, it is vital that you
review these principal notes each week and take action on the action items,
when necessary. I appreciate your
partnership in this.
Drop-Off and Dismissal Procedures
Morning Drop-Off:
When transporting your
child to Riddle Brook School between 7:30 a.m. and 7:50 a.m., you will drop-off
in the oval at the rear entrance of the school. A duty teacher is
available to supervise children at the drop off area beginning at 7:30
a.m. From 7:50 a.m - 8:00 a.m., you will drop off at the main entrance.
I would recommend arriving by 7:50 as often as possible as traffic can
get backed up at the main entrance. If the children arrive late to their
rooms (due to traffic) they will still be marked tardy. The academic day
begins at 8:00 a.m. If you arrive after 8:00 a.m., you must park in
Visitor Parking and accompany your child to the office to sign a clipboard
noting his/her tardiness.
In order to avoid
traffic back up and being marked tardy, the best course of action is to take
the bus or arrive at 7:30 AM.

RBS Fall Book Fair/Sale – Please consider signing up to volunteer
Riddle Brook School is
planning a "Get Hooked on a Book" event September 12-14, 2016.
This will be a great opportunity for students and their families to
purchase books in the back to school season. The funds raised will assist
RBS with acquisitions such as a new piece of playground equipment
and/or additional technology for student use. Please
consider volunteering, we can't make this happen without help!
This sale will be smaller
than the PTG Spring Book Fair, we are planning two days of set up and
three days of shopping. The sale will need volunteers to set up the
bookcases and minimal decorations, a few cashiers (training is available online),
and help to pack the cases away. Please email

you would like to join the committee or have any questions about volunteering.

Updated School Phone
Extensions
The
district has updated its phone system. We now have 5 digits
extensions. You will need to add a 2 in front of our previous 4 digit
extensions. For example, our nurse’s former extension was 5201, and
it is now 25201.
