RBS Principal’s Notes
March 17, 2017
Happy St. Patrick’s to all of our Irish and Irish-for-the-day families!  Sláinte to all!  At RBS, some very sneaky leprechauns visited our classrooms!

2017-18 School Calendar
As families start planning for next year, we thought it would be helpful to share the 2017-18 School Calendar.  The first day of school for students is Tuesday, August 29th.

Election Results (A Message from Superintendent McGee)
Thank you to all the Bedford citizens who voted on Thursday.  The school district budget passed and the contracts for our teachers, support staff, and custodians passed as well.  This will make the district's pay scale more competitive and help get health insurance costs under control.  The positive results will allow the whole district to continue to focus on our core mission of teaching and learning.  Thank you!

RBS KidVote Results
RBS had 123 students vote in our annual KidVote, which supported our Town/District voting on March 16th.  Here are the results for our April Spirit Day vote:
Holiday Day (26%)
Disney Character Day (34.1%)
Favorite Color Day (39.8%) - WINNER

Executive Functioning and Mindfulness Messages
Executive Functioning
Bosses need to organize their materials and desk spaces, so they always have good learning places.  Inside your desk, put all your books on one side and folders on the other.  Keep all your writing tools, glue sticks and scissors in a pencil box.  If you need a reminder, take a picture.  Look at the picture to help you remember how to organize your desk, so you can be ready for learning.
Let’s try the Energizing Breath to help our learning and mindful attention.
Breathe quickly with your mouths open for 30 seconds (If you need help, imagine what a panting dog looks like.).  Then continue for another 30 seconds with your mouths closed as you take short belly breaths with one hand on your belly.  After a full minute, take four regular deep inhales and exhales.  You should feel energized and ready to work.

In an age where technology is everywhere, how do we best support adolescents as they learn how to responsibly use these tools?
