RBS Principal’s Notes
October 28, 2016

Some of our grade levels celebrated Halloween today, and others will celebrate on Monday.  I’ll be sure to include pictures from the festivities in next week’s notes.

Parent Pick-Up Reminder
Parents, please remember to fill out the appropriate ticket/form, get in line and wait for your child to be called by a staff member.  Recently, it’s been quite chaotic, and potentially unsafe, in the gym as some parents are bypassing our dismissal system by calling their children over to them without checking out.  This system is in place in order to assure that your child is being dismissed to the proper person.

Make Life Sweeter Candy Drive
With the help of a BHS student, we will be conducting a weeklong post Halloween candy drive.  All of the collections will be donated to the New Horizons Soup Kitchen in Manchester.  New Horizons gratefully uses these donations as dessert when they serve the homeless, and they also pass it along as a nighttime treat to those homeless guests staying in the shelter.  The goal of the drive is to make life a little sweeter for those less fortunate.  All donations can be placed in the marked box outside the office, starting the day after Halloween until the end of the school day on Monday, November 7th.

Food Drive – October 17 – November 18
We have a new (Bedford) donation recipient this year.
The Food Pantry at Bedford Presbyterian Church is a newly established resource for those in our community who are facing hunger or food insecurity.  The Food Pantry is a 501(c)3 organization that is a well-coordinated effort between 5 area churches, local organizations, including the Bedford Lion's Club and the Boy Scouts, and individuals and families in Bedford.

Needed food items include:
Canned Tuna
Peanut butter
Breakfast cereal
Canned fruit
Fruit juice
Canned pasta sauce
Canned pasta
Canned beans
Macaroni and cheese
*Donations of cash are also welcomed in order to purchase food from the NH Food Bank (checks made out to Bedford Presbyterian Church).

On Tuesday, November 22nd the boxes will be donated as a contribution from the Riddle Brook School community.  Therefore, we will need all donations by Friday, November 18th.  Our Principal’s Advisory Group will be organizing and packing the donations on Monday, November 21st.

Executive Functioning
Remember the STOP sign will help you to read the room and be a good boss of yourself.  We talked about S is for Space.  Today let’s talk about T stands for time.  When you go into a new room or space, use your inner voice to ask:  What is going on at this time?  Is it a listening time or a talking time?  Is it quiet or loud?  Is it a time to sit or a time to move?  Match your body and voice to what is happening at this time.

Ecosmith Recycle Bins for Destination Imagination
Did you know that every school in the district has an Ecosmith Recycle Bin?  This is a great way to donate/recycle old clothes while helping raise funds for our teams who advance to Global Finals each year.  You can put any kind of fabric in these bins - towels and stuffed animals too.  Ripped shirts and pants with holes are fine, as well as well worn shoes.  Bedford DI greatly appreciates your continued participation in this program.
